What are DEIJ and Safety Minutes?

In the Krummel group, all of our group meetings now include a safety minute and a DEIJ minute, each from a different student in the group. Safety minutes are brief announcements about safety, whether a quick fact/reminder, addressing a problem observed in the lab, or encouraging positive habits. DEIJ minutes are brief announcements regarding how we as a group are or could be more inclusive, equitable, just, and open to diversity based on news, observations, or workshops.

These minutes are ways we as a group can be attentive to important things that we often become complacent to, so we can join excellence and empathy in our day to day workings.

It's great that your group is incorporating DEIJ and Safety Minutes into your meetings. It's an excellent way to stay focused on both inclusivity and safety in everyday activities. From a concrete perspective, this practice is just as important in our field, where safety and teamwork are essential to success. At Concrete Contractors Richmond VA, we always emphasize the importance of safety on job sites, as well as maintaining an inclusive and respectful work environment for everyone involved. Keep up the good work!
