We use many different optics in our labs, such as lenses, filters, and mirrors, whether we are building a new spectrometer or performing daily alignments. It is easy to forget to put unused optics back into their containers and drawers, but improper storage can lead to damage if the optic falls off of a counter or collects dust. Optics should ideally be stored in a closed box, wrapped in lens tissue. This safety minute includes some examples from our labs of properly and improperly stored optics for reference.
