Often, when we need to get fluids through a fitting, we turn to teflon tape for a tight seal with no leaks. It's important to know, however, that for CGA fittings, it's important NOT to use teflon tape, as the fittings are designed for a "dry fit" with metal-to-metal contact. We recently learned this as we began drawing gaseous nitrogen from the headspace of our liquid nitrogen tank. See file below for more information.

That's Not My Neighbor information was really enlightening, especially the part about CGA fittings not using Teflon tape, even though it's standard practice in many other systems. I'd like to ask if this dry fit principle applies similarly to gases other than nitrogen? Further documentation would be great.
I greatly appreciate your practical knowledge of CGA connectors; this information helps us avoid unfortunate technical mistakes. Please add a CGA code table for each gas type to make the data fairer and more transparent. At Space Waves Game, using Teflon tape in these fittings—even though it might seem like a helpful “just in case” move—can actually prevent proper sealing and create hazardous leaks.
